Language evolved because early humans needed to communicate with each other. First they just used grunts and gestures but over time the grunts became more sophisticated and different sound words were formed. It was then a long time until human began to write things down and keep a record of the language. It’s interesting because language is always evolving even now. As we invent more things we have to come up with new works to describe them.

      Hi Lexie,

Great question! The first words were created as a way to communicate, so that our ancestors could work in ‘teams’ – I guess this shows the importance of working together in science, as one persons abilities are greatly strengthened if more people work on a particular topic!
