I don’t think they could be used for time travel, since gravitational waves are a prediction from Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity. In this theory, nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, which (I think) would be required for time travel.

However, when scientists look at a star or other object in the Universe, the light from that object has taken so long to reach us, that we are literally seeing the star from millions, sometimes even billions of years ago – this could be thought of as a type of time travel!
